Is it better to take a TEFL course in your home country or abroad?
There are probably some schools offering TEFL courses in your home country. However, taking the course in the target country brings important advantages:
- smooth transition between your culture and the new one – you learn about the culture
before you start the job, you get to know the local conditions and if you have any questions,
you have someone to ask
- getting teaching tips specific for the country – you learn how English is usually taught in the
country and about learning problems that usually emerge from the local language
- sharing experience – you meet other TEFL students who you can share your experiences and
feelings with; you can help each other and stay in touch even after the course; you also meet
an already practicing English teacher who will share their experience with the culture and with
teaching English as a foreign language
- cost of living – living in the Czech Republic is cheaper than in most of the European countries,
therefore staying here during the course saves you money; moreover, you can meet your
future roomates in the course and later share a rent with them
- and much more – if you decide on TEFL in Prague by Edua Languages, there are even more
advantages
